Canadian artist Jim Lemoire, instructor of art at the University of Toronto Schools, explores the tensions and fluidity of sexual and gender identity formation and expression in his work. Using video and mixed media drawing/photography/painting as a primary vehicle, his work pushes the parameters of Canadian queer politics and challenges simplified rhetoric of the mainstream queer liberation movement. His video art, as well as his mixed-media painting and photography, has been exhibited internationally in cities including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and New York.
Claro Cosco is a high school student at University of Toronto Schools. He has studied a variety of art media including video, in which his work explores imagery from a personal perspective. His video highlights include "Mendline", presented in the inaugural Toronto Student Film Festival of 2006, and "genderpunk", screened as part of ARCfest 2006. He is involved in arts-based projects documenting personal issues and questions of identity in relation to gender from a youth perspective.
