Mary J. Daniel is a media artist and educator, with an MFA in film & video, and several years experience teaching film and video production, including at Purdue University, Sheridan College, Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design and the University of British Columbia—Okanagan. She has a twenty-year history of making hard-to-categorize works focussing on the artistry and poetry of mundane phenomena. These include several short films and videos and a feature-length study of everyday storytelling. She is the producer of an omnibus of six films by six women on the six senses, the writer of several broadcast documentaries, and has over two-dozen production credits on independent films and videos. Her work has shown at cinematheques, art houses, micro cinemas, and major festivals on the international, experimental, women’s, and queer festival circuits. Pieces of her 2007 anthology project, Pictures of Things That Aren’t There, were recently featured in curated programmes of Canadian works at the Kassel Documentary Festival and the Anthology Film Archives in New York City.
