Kim Derko

A graduate of the Emily Carr College of Art & Design in Vancouver, Kim Derko studied art history, colour theory and photography before becoming a cinematographer. Kim’s work as a director includes the films: Book of Knives, An Intelligent Woman and The Scientific Girl. She has also been a resident at the Banff Centre on two projects and has collaborated with many Canadian artists: Su Rynard, Stan Douglas, Janieta Eyre, Simone Jones, John Greyson, Janet Cardiff & George Mueller to name a few.

As Director of Photography Kim Derko recently shot NATURE OF THE BEAST, t.v movie for Disney and the t.v. series Dark Oracle & Show Me Yours. Her work on David Mortins’ “Youkali Hotel” earned her a Gemini Award in 2004. She has worked with filimakers which include: Kristen Thomson on “I Claudia”, John Greyson on “UNCUT” & "The Law of Enclosures", and Chris Grismer's: "CLUTCH", which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Over the years Kim has worked as cinematographer with Su Rynard on numerous art films, music videos and most recently Su Rynard’s award winning feature film “KARDIA”.
