Artist

John Orentlicher

John Orentlicher was born in Roanoke, Va in 1943 and grew up in Wasington, D.C. He served in the peace Corps from 1964-66 interrupting his college studies, and received his BA in 1968 from Goddard College (Plainfield, VT). He went on to receive his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1970.

Professor Orentlicher taught in Michigan initially and later moved to Syracuse University to teach in the Art Video program of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. He served many years as a Chair of various media programs and is now a Professor Emeritus.

John Orentlicher received a Video Fellowship from the National Endowment on the Arts and a project Grant with Lucinda Devlin from the New York Council on the Arts. His video work has been exhibited in invitational and juried venues in Canada, Berlin, Amsterdam, Spain, Italy, Japan, Colombia, Peru and Chile in addition to festivals and museums in the U.S. He was awarded two Senior Fulbright Lectureships in Colombia, and Chile and has traveled extensively in South America and Mexico.
