Almerinda Travassos

Almerinda Travassos was born in Azores, Portugal. She and her family immigrated to Thompson Manitoba in the middle of winter and then relocated to the warmer climates of Toronto.

Her media art is primarily focused on single-channel video works that explores issues of history, memories and family within the context of being Portuguese-born and Lesbian. Her artistic practice spans 25 years, and includes numerous collaborative and independent videos/films that have been screened worldwide.
She has collaborated extensively with the late Colin Campbell and continues to produce/direct work with Margaret Moores.

She holds a BFA in Film from York University and currently works at OCAD University.
