Martha Newbigging was born near Toronto, Canada and now resides in Eastern Ontario. She has a BFA from OCAD University and a post-graduate diploma in Computer Graphics from Sheridan College. Her artwork takes the form of animation and composited video, drawing and illustration and interactive-screen art. She is primarily interested in exploring issues of gender and sexuality through figurative narrative. Her work has been shown in the Images Festival (Toronto), InsideOut (Toronto), GIV (Montreal), Video Art Plastique (France), Lovebytes (England), The New Festival (New York) and other lesbian and gay festivals internationally.
She is co-founder of the Consecon Art Space, a community arts initiative and has facilitated animation and comics workshops for adults and children in community and school settings.
