Christopher McNamara

Christopher McNamara is a film and video maker as well as a visual artist who lives and works in Windsor. His installation work incorporates film and video components. In 1986 his documentary film Tattoo won several awards in Canada (including CBC Telefest "Best Short Documentary Film"). The film was also included in the 24th Ann Arbor Film Festival. His work has been shown in Windsor, Detroit, Toronto, London and New York. In the past few years he has produced videos for Changing Focus, a labour and social issue incorporation in Windsor. In 1992 he co-founded MACHYDERM, a two-artist project group, with Dermot Wilson. Their videos are now included in the Art Gallery of Windsor's collection. Curator Bruce Ferguson says that these videos are "like a new language". His other activities include adjudication appointments for both the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council; the participation in the founding of the House of Toast, Windsor's Film and Video Collective; former board member of Artcite inc. He is currently Artistic Coordinator of Artcite inc.
