Elizabeth MacKenzie has lived and worked in a number of Canadian cities including Toronto, Saskatoon, Edmonton and currently, Vancouver. She studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto and received a MFA from the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon). Her work in drawing, installation and video explores the complexity of familial and other interpersonal relations and has been represented in numerous festivals, screenings and exhibitions across Canada, United States and Europe. Her video work is included in numerous university collections as well as the National Gallery of Canada.

Her drawings were included in Facing History: Portraits from Vancouver organized by Presentation House Gallery (North Vancouver) in 2001 as well as For the Record: Drawing for Contemporary Life at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2003. In 2010 she participated in SLOW: Relations + Practices, a group residency/exhibition at Centre A (Vancouver). This project considered the value of proximity and meaningful exchange for a group of eight cultural producers over an extended period of time.

Elizabeth co-curated the video series Persistent Resistance: Early Feminist Video in Vancouver for VIVO Media Arts Centre in 2008. She has written extensively about her experience as an artist-mother, including essays for Mothering Canada: Interdisciplinary Voices (2009) and Reconciling Art and Motherhood (2010). Elizabeth maintains an ongoing commitment to community involvement, collaborative practices, critical writing and teaching.
