Speculations: Narrative Video by Women
The Independent, Apr. 1985, v. 8, no. 3, pp. 12-14
Not wanting to ghettoize the works by females but also not wanting them to remain in the dark, deMichiel focuses on a few female video artists and their works in the narrative format. The films touch on female notions and experiences of sexuality and violence, romantic desires, motherhood, etc, These fictional constructs are not narrative per se in the sense of mainstream movies as we know them today; they are more experimental and infused with a sense of story therefore demanding the viewer to, as the author put it, read the narrative between the lines.
