Movie should shame Cracker Barrel Officials

by Ruth Ann Leach

Nashville Banner, Jan. 23, 1997

Filmmakers Tami Gold and Kelly Anderson have been following the story of Cheryl Sommerville, a woman who was fired from Craker Barrel for "being gay". This led to the film Out of Work, a fascinating example of the power of film. While the film didn't have a direct impact on Craker Barrel, it led to the guaranteeing of job protection to homosexuals in the United Auto Workers and the legislation of six states to protect employees out of being fired based on sexuality.
