Whilst in Haiti to make a documentary about the country's culture and rituals, filmmaker Nick Taylor discovers that a common aspiration is to escape Haiti, in search of a brighter future. In this article, Taylor recalls his personal experiences in Haiti in the two weeks running up to President Aristide's departure. It is unclear whether he has completed the documentary. This article contains an accompanying illustration by Jimmy Turrell.
