Petroglyphs in Motion: James Luna

Petroglyphs In Motion, 2005

Toronto: A Space Gallery, 2005

James Luna's performance-based installation Petroglyphs In Motion is a response to the difficult and controversial myths and realities that permeate the lives of Native Americans in modernity. Luna's performances are evocative of traditional Native dance intertwined with a fashion show sensibility as his performances evolve from him parading down a catwalk while often interacting with the audience. He confronts such issues as "alcohol and substance abuse, racism and the commodification of Native cultures."
