Gehr's sensuous audacity proves refreshing: Swiss Transplant makes his mark on Toronto scene

This is a series of short descriptions of various art shows in Toronto at the time. Among the other artists mentioned in this article is Lisa Steele. This review talks about her showing at Trinity Square Video of 7 of her videos including the series of vignettes entitled the Gloria Tapes.

In this edition of Bentley May's regular ON SHOW column he makes reference to four different art exhibits; sculptor Andrea Gehr's new instillation at Ydessa Gallery; Lisa Steele's screening of her work The Gloria Tapes at Trinity Square Video; Cathy Daley and Gilles Mihalcean's exhibition of recent paintings at Mercer Union; and lastly, two public discussions on representational art, the first - Practice of Pictures: Representation in Toronto Art held at The Rivoli - organized by the art critic Philip Monk and featuring Monk, Richard Rhodes (editor of C Magazine), and Dr. Jeanne Randolph (psychiatrist and art critic); the second panel discussion entitled Raw Art: Emergence of the Figure and the Figurative at the Koffler Gallery features David Burnett (curator of contemporary art at the AGO), artist John Yudelman, art dealer Jack Pollock, and Olga Korper (director of Gallery O.).
