Barcelone: Celine Baril

by Alex Roshuk

Fuse, Fall 1990, v. 14, no. 1+2, pp. 51-52

Celine Baril's 40-minute film, Barcelone, created out of the tradition of experimental filmmaker Jean Vigo is a complex investigative commentary, exploring the medium of film, documentary video, the gender politics in the film industry, dada and surrealism, cinema and politics, and our relationship to history. Baril features herself as a performer, adding a first person perspective and personal meaning to the various eclectic references and visual metaphors.
