An introduction to lo-fi film collectives in Quebec. This article questions why there is an abundance of collectives in the film and video community in Quebec as opposed to the rest of Canada, mentioning that Toronto as an example is still highly competative. The article focuses specifically on Kino - a monthly screening society where members make a film or video for each screening - and Automatic Vaudville - a group of videomakers whose poduction style is modeled after classic hollywood production houses with in house actors and a departmental system.
