New Media, New Media Distribution

by Peter Steven

POV, Spring 1996, no. 29, pp. 34-35

A discussion of the future of video tapes. This article is a debate between John McAllister (head of Omega Media, an educational video distributor) and Kim Tomczak of Vtape. This article was written just as new media forms were appearing, and discusses how the internet, CD-ROMs, and the up-and-coming DVD and VOD would affect video. McAllister believed VOD (video on demand) would mean the end of video, and predicted that CDs and DVDs would fizzle out.
