Girl, interrupted: Johanna Burton on Tracy + the Plastics

by Johanna Burton

Artforum, Summer 2005, v. 43, no. 10, pp. 170-172

The article is an introduction to Wynne Greenwood’s performance and video art and her piece Tracy + the Plastic’s first full- length performance and video installation- the artist is playing all three queer punk feminist girl band members simultaneously, on stage and in the video- a split personality hallucination, confusing both existential and constructed notions of the self. The author describes Greenwood’s politics of the pause and it’s resistance to linearity as well as her resisitance to easy ditinctions between video, performance and music.
