V tape awards a yearly prize to an emerging artist, and the 2000 recipient is Melissa Levin. Levin graduated with a B.F.A. from the Philadelphia College of Art and an M.F.A. School of the Art Institute of Chicago, in 1998. She has produced several video shorts and installations and has been included in many gay and lesbian film festivals. Levin's work is a mix of humour and visual mastery and appropriates and subverts gay and lesbian stereotypes.
