The story of video art in China is one of rapidly growing technology with much slower acceptance. Recounting the transition of video art from its beginnings in the 80s to the present, this article looks at the careers of early video artists in China while also looking at the role of video and the artist as a radical cultural force. The artists discussed include Wang Gongxin, Zhang Peili and Lin Tianmiao.
