Out at Work

by Mia Butzbaugh

Labor Notes, Feb. Spring 1997, no. 215

A new video documentary directed and produced by Tami Gold and Kelly Anderson, Out at Work explores the workplace rights of homosexual workers in the context of the state of Georgia, where it is legal to fire employees for their sexual orientation. The video recounts how one woman fought against her dismissal as a cook for being gay and the coalition she initiated to fight discriminatory policies, homophobia in the workplace and the lack of protection for gay workers. Out at Work highlights how each of the workers featured are compelled to act by circumstance and strengthened by a collective cause.
