VIDEO ON AIDS AT AFI
The Independent, Mar. 1988, v. 11, no. 2, p. 30
John Greyson discusses the "media explosion" on the representational issue of homosexuality in relation to AIDS with independent queer video art responses at the American Film Institute. Showing a range of video genres from documentary to music videos, the 21 videos shown as part of Only Human ensured that the queer and ethnically diverse reaction to the historical trajectory of representing AIDS (first as "gay cancer" in 1981 to its "heterosexualization" in 1987) was given sufficient visibility.
