I don't go to the movies anymore: An interview with Bruce Conner

by Scott Macdonald

Afterimage, Summer 1982, v. 10, no. 1 & 2, pp. 21-23

Scott Macdonald sits down with the late artist Bruce Conner, renowned for his work in film, drawing, sculpture, painting, collage, and photography. Conner and Macdonald mainly talk about his work as a filmmaker, for which he was probably most distinguished. Conner's films have been described as a precursor to the music video, as many of his films used prerecorded music, such as Devo's Mongoloid for his film of the same name. He typically juxtaposed this music or other found sound recordings with found footage from educational films, commercials, and historical footage to name a few sources.
