Howard Guttenplan's "New York Diary"
Afterimage, Mar. 1976, v. 3, no. 9, p. 4
This review assesses New York Diary by Howard Guttenplan, a film consisting of a series of intensely coloured shots of the recognizable urban environment. Acting as the director of the Millennium Film Workshop, Guttenplan has been exposed to a great deal of experimental film that has likely informed his practice. He has skillfully turned a series of what seem to be furtively collected shots into a highly aesthetic formal exercise.
