Reviews: Lynda Benglis, Paula Cooper Gallery
Artforum, May 1973, v. 11, no. 9, pp. 79-83
On this fifth page of this collection of reviews is one detailing Lynda Benglis’s show 1973 show at Paula Cooper Gallery. Often, her videos are films of monitors, or monitors within monitors, displaying static. Some videos, such as Hometape Revised, contain figures in conversation, but a loud, droning soundtrack and ambiguous, contradictory voice-over obscures the conversation. Ultimately, reviewer Bruce Boice concludes that Benglis seems more interested in what is not on the tape then what is on it.
