Author Jim Quilty reviews the inaugural exhibition, Closer, at the Beirut Art Centre in Beirut, which was held from the 16th of January to the 2nd of April, 2009.

The exhibition showcased the work of 11 international artists, exploring various forms of media from 1974 to 2008, with works from both established and emerging artists, including Mona Hatoum, Anri Sala, Lisa Steele and Lina Saneh.
