Sarah Gregg Millman: A fun time is a great time

by Erinn Beth Langille

Mercer Union, July 3, 2009

Toronto: Mercer Union, 2009

This exhibition catalogue accompanied the July 3 to August 15 programme at the Mercer Union centre for contemporary art, featuring the work of video artist Sarah Gregg Millman. Millman’s work addresses the decay of beauty and notions of the female muse or icon, while rejecting the tenets of second wave feminism. Influenced by French filmmaker Agnes Varda, Millman’s work contrasts sunny scenes populated by smiling women with “an indeterminate malaise articulated through boredom and anxiety.”
