TV as a creative medium: Howard Wise and Video Art
Afterimage, May 1984, v. 11, no. 10, pp. 5-8
An article chronicling Howard Wise's transformation from midwestern company president to gallery owner and pioneering patron of the "art and technology" movement. The author discusses Wise as an influential curator of kinetic and light work in the 1960s, a movement she identifies as the forerunner to video. Sturken notes Wise's ability to support experimental and commonly financially nonviable works while making them palatable to a wide and wealthy corporate audience. She describes Wise's groundbreaking TV as a Creative Medium show, which introduced video to America, and describes Wise's subsequent support of the video community as a project funder and distributor under the aegis of Electronic Arts Intermix.
