James Byrne
Design Quarterly, 1979, no. 111, pp. 16 - 21
This article is an analysis of James Byrne's body of work, which is primarily related to television with regard to formal and perceptual concerns. Later, he shifts slightly to the autobiographical, bordering on performance, and then revisits the formal qualities of television and its many uses. Marie Cieri chronicles the progression of Byrne's work through themes, issues, and formats. Cieri notes Byrne's influences, such as Peter Campus, and draws comparisons to other artists, such as Chris Burden. An in-depth description and analysis of Certain Events is provided.
