Drifting along the small foams or riding the waves: Indonesian artists surf on the video medium
OK. Video post_event_, 2003, pp. 38-52
Jakarta: ruangrupa, 2003
This is an essay included in the festival catalog for the 2003 festival OK. Video post_event_.
In this essay, Henro Wiyanto discusses how, as a medium, video art functions as a critique to dominant ideology. Through this, it attempts to erase political assumptions of social discourses and high culture commodifications. For Wiyanto, this is exemplified by the video art of artists such as Nam June Paik, and Indonesian video artists Heri Dori and Krisna Murti, all of whom have critiqued the relationship between television and capitalist culture.
