Robert De Niro's Raging Bull: The History of a Performance and a Performance of History
Canadian Journal of Film Studies, Spring 2011, v. 20, no. 1, pp. 20-40
Based on primary sources from 'The Robert De Niro Papers' archive at the University of Texas at Austin, this article addresses the actor's role in the making of the 1980 film Raging Bull, directed by Martin Scorsese. Tait not only discusses De Niro's groundbreaking 'method acting' process, but also looks at his involvement in screenwriting as well as post-production. This analyses of De Niro's unpublicized impact tries to breakaway from the common view of the film as primarily a Sorsese masterpiece.
