Cinema of Prayoga: Indian Experimental Film & Video 1913-2006
Vertigo, Fall 2006, v. 3, no. 3
In this essay, Tanya Singh explores the social, philosophical and cultural background of past and present traditions of film experimentation in India. She argues that contemporary film and video has grown out of need to recognize and make visible those marginalized experiences (e.g. those of decolonized subjectivities, women, homosexuals, Dalits, etc.) written out of conventional histories.
