Statistical Material: Globalization and the Digital Art of John Klima
The New Centennial Review, Summer 2003, v. 3, no. 2, pp. 67-89
For her analysis of John Klima's Political Landscape, Emotional Terrain Rita Raley examines the artists aesthetic practice using computer media to produce computer visualization of large scale global processes. Through Klima's work Raley investigates what the investigation of the world as it exists in data reveals about that data. Raley proposes that "the visual spectacles Klima produces are subversive of the technicity and technological rationality inherent in statistical calculation, and that they are also generated by a practice and an operation that produces an aesthetic" (69).
