Unsaying Life Stories: The Self-Representational Art of Shirin Neshat and Ghazel

This article examines the similarities and differences between the art and art practice of the camera-based work of two contemporary Iranian women artists: Shirin Neshat and Ghazel. It asks the question: how have these artists used their cameras to "unsay" their life stories within and against the dominant histories and practices both in Iran and in the West?
