Border Crossings, Mar. 2014, v. 33, no. 1, p. 19

This anonymously penned article is a short exploration of Winnipeg-based artist Isiah Medina's film and video work. Medina has shot on everything from 16mm to a cell phone, and his pieces often feature his friends. Medina's six-minute piece Semi-Auto Colours is a rumination on the artist's childhood in the inner city neighbourhood of Winnipeg's West End. In creating his works, Medina gives primacy to the cut, arguing that if you value the cut - that empty space between images - you will see the images themselves in a new manner. Inspired by philosophy and poetry, and featuring a diverse range of music, Medina's work philosophizes on how to find a home in the wider world.
