by Andrea Picard

Cinema Scope, Fall 2013, v. 15, no. 56, pp. 63-66

New York-based French artist Camille Henrot won the Silver Lion at Venice for best young promising artist for her video Grosse Fatigue. The video explores creationist myths and was created during the artist's fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution. The video is comprised of a succession of windows and folders opening and closing on a computer screen. The narration is in the style of seventies slam poetry written in collaboration with poet Jacob Bromberg and DJ Joakim Bouaziz. Cinema Scope interviews Henrot asking her about the history of humanity as a theme within her video and how the title; Grosee Fatigue is emblematic of our contemporary mood.
