This article discusses the ways in which Maya Deren both embraced and critiqued the ethnographic perspective in her films. Mollona describes Deren’s fascination with Haitian Voodoo, and the ways in which Deren mimics key elements found in Haitian rituals in her films through editing and the manipulation of content.
