New Media States: Web 2.0 And Embedded Video Practice

by Kenneth Rogers

Resolutions, 2012, v. 3, pp. 36-52

Rogers evaluates the role of the television user within a new framework of video platforms. His critique is that Web 2.0 has challenged at obscured the way in which video was once seen as a radical media act, presenting in galleries, but available on every media outlet. Where then, does the role of the video artist fit in? His critique extends beyond shallow uses of video embedded smartphones and elaborates on the misconstrued illustrations of mainstream media identifying SMS use during the Arab Spring as a "Twiitter Revolution".
