Structural Videotape in Canada

by Eric Cameron

Video Art: An Anthology, 1976, pp. 188-195

Toronto: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1976

This article explores two areas of structural videotape, one more purely analytical, in which the process of signification itself becomes the ultimate content of the work, the other, having identifiable subject matter but so tightly interlocked with structural elements that it might almost seem to be an amplification of latent connotations of the medium. Primarily explored are the video works produced by former students of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Also discussed is the video work of Colin Campbell, Noel Harding and Lisa Steele.
