A different look at the nightly news: Artists put their own slant on media manipulation

by Richard Huntington

Buffalo News, Feb. 17, 1991

The style and conventions of televisual representation are challenged by artists in Video Witness. This annual festival of independent journalism, co-organized by Chris Hill and Barbara Lattanzi, focuses on how television often stands in for the eyewitness. The proliferation of camcorders and the making of home movies by artists in Video Witness showcases the alternative perspective and critical views not present in mainstream news. Activist groups in the festival include MAC attack – Media Against Censorship, BAARC: Buffalo Artists Against Repression and Censorship.
