SINCERELY, WARMLY

SCREENING CURATED BY DANIELLA SANADER

Thursday, October 25, 2018

6:30pm

Sincerely, Warmly presents a program of video work about reaching out to someone who could never respond to you. Taking the form of epistolary texts, postcards from somewhere, mis-remembered narratives, and eavesdropping tactics, the works in Sincerely, Warmly explore the intimacies and distances of trying to communicate. At times sweet, mournful, introspective, silly, and voyeuristic, these works release some questions into the ether, questions that ultimately go unanswered: How are you? Where have you been? Can you hear me? Do you miss me?

THE RESEARCHER IS PRESENT

With Sincerely, Warmly Vtape officially launches a new program that welcomes writers, curators, artists and all hybrids of these to inhabit our space on a regular basis, usually once a week for a few months. We are offering this open-ended space for contemplation in order to see what happens.

Sometimes a screening will emerge, or an exhibition; sometimes some writing with surface. We ask for a brief *idea* of what might be investigated, thought about, channelled during this residency. The outcome of this residency is usually determined after a few weeks have passed.

Daniella Sanader has been engaging with titles from the 5000+ distribution collection at Vtape, exploring both letter writing and performance for the camera. She proposed to develop practices of descriptive, associative, and speculative note-taking for watching artists’ bodies in motion on video with a view to develop writing that would articulate the relationship between the researcher and the artist. In spring 2019, Vtape will publish a chapbook that has resulted from this residency and her recent participation in the Critical Art Writing Ensemble III at the Banff Centre where she worked on developing writing specific to this project.
