Vibrations from Gaza offers a glimpse into the experiences of Deaf children in the colonized and confined coastal territory of Gaza, Palestine. Born and raised under siege and frequent onslaughts these children, including Amani, Musa, Israa, and others, provide vivid accounts of their encounter of bombardment and the constant presence of drones in their sky. The children describe their perceptions of missiles strikes through sensing vibrations in the air, trembling of the ground, and the resonance of collapsing buildings. The film also questions whether the deafness of these children is a natural or a consequence of Israel's use of sonic weaponry, such as sonic booms.

With support from the Ontario Arts Council, I embarked on a journey to Gaza Strip via Egypt, circumventing the restrictions placed by the Israeli occupation regime which prohibits access to Gaza from the West Bank, without individual permits—rarely issued. While in Gaza, I worked with children in an Art Therapy program following 2021 attack. I was deeply touched by the conditions and experiences of Deaf children at the Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children and began questioning the deafness of the world towards the conditions of 2.2 million Palestinians in Gaza.

This film gives Palestinian Deaf children in the besieged Gaza a voice to articulate and share their experiences, shedding light on the horrific conditions they are enduring since 2007.

ولدوا ويكبرون تحت الحصار والهجمات المتكررة، بمن فيهم أماني وموسى وإسراء وغيرهم، يقدمون شهادات عن مواجهتهم للقصف والوجود المستمر للطائرات بدون طيار في سمائهم. يصف الأطفال ضربات الصواريخ من خلال استشعار الاهتزازات في الهواء، وارتجاج الأرض، وصدى المباني المنهارة. يتساءل الفيلم أيضا عما إذا كان صمم هؤلاء الأطفال طبيعيا أم نتيجة لاستخدام إسرائيل للأسلحة الصوتية، مثل الانفجارات الصوتية.

بدعم من مجلس أونتاريو للفنون، شرعت في رحلة إلى قطاع غزة عبر مصر، متجاوزة القيود التي يفرضها نظام الاحتلال الإسرائيلي الذي يحظر الوصول إلى غزة من الضفة الغربية بدون تصاريح فردية – نادرا ما تصدر. أثناء وجودي في غزة، عملت مع الأطفال في برنامج العلاج بالفن بعد هجوم عام 2021. لقد تأثرت بشدة بظروف وتجارب الأطفال الصم في "جمعية أطفالنا للأطفال الصم" وبدأت أتساءل عن صمم العالم تجاه ظروف 2.2 مليون فلسطيني في غزة.

Vibrations de Gaza offre un aperçu des expériences d'enfants sourds dans le territoire côtier colonisé et confiné de Gaza, en Palestine, en particulier la violence à laquelle ils sont soumis par les opérations militaires israéliennes. Nés et élevés sous les assauts fréquents des forces d’occupation, des enfants, Amani, Musa, Israa et d’autres, récitent des souvenirs vivants de leurs expériences de bombardements et de la présence constante de drones militaires dans leur ciel. Les enfants décrivent leurs perceptions des flammes de missiles à travers les vibrations dans l’air, le tremblement du sol et la résonance des bâtiments qui s’effondrent. Le film se demande également si la surdité de ces enfants est naturelle ou une conséquence de l’utilisation par Israël d’armes soniques.

Avec le soutien du Conseil des arts de l’Ontario, j’ai entrepris un voyage à Gaza via l’Égypte, contournant les restrictions imposées par le régime d’occupation israélien qui interdisent l’accès à Gaza sans permis individuels– qui sont rarement délivrés. Pendant mon séjour à Gaza, j’ai travaillé avec des enfants dans un programme d’art-thérapie après l’attaque de 2021. J’ai été profondément touché par les conditions et les expériences des jeunes de la Société Atfaluna pour les enfants sourds.

J’ai commencé à remettre en question la surdité du monde envers les conditions de 2,2 millions de Palestiniens à Gaza.

Ce film donne aux enfants sourds palestiniens de Gaza assiégée une voix pour exprimer et partager leurs expériences, mettant en lumière les conditions horribles qu’ils endurent depuis 2007.
