Lull Before The Storm, The - Part 4: Community Acts
1990, 52:00 minutes, colour, English
Women Of The Wood and Community Acts are a 2-part documentary series based on a set of interviews with women whose lives revolved around the province's largest industry in the 1930's, the 1940's, and the 1950's: the wood industry. As wives or children of loggers and millworkers, their lives were deeply touched by the economic cycles of the industry, conditions in single industry logging towns and in the camps or mills. Other women interviewed were spokespeople for labour or community-based organizations and worked on issues and campaigns of parallel concern to the "women of wood." The Women of Wood concentrates on living conditions, while Community Acts emphasizes activism, organization and cultural tradition.
