1981, 30:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 017.00

This tape uses a broad historic perspective to approach the topic of satellite telecommunications. It was made for broadcast on the final days of the Marconi Amplified event in 1981, to celebrate the anniversary of Marconi's first intercontinental radio transmision.

The tape opens with a history of telecommunications. A narration explains the chronology along with related images. The second section involves a rounded out discussion of the present day technology from the point of view of industrialists, designers, artists and Northern Canadian broadcasters. Their hopes, the law, their relationship to other nations and cultures are touched upon.
