As she unravels her story, Beatrice describes her efforts to maintain a marriage of 16 years to Al Small. Turning to family, friends, church and finally a lawyer, Beatrice tries repeatedly to get others to understand the threat that lies behind Al's words, 'Beatrice, I love you.'
