She Sings and Dances (In Archive) Box 2

1984, 11:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 9999.063

The program is a consideration of popular Hindu films and the characters and plots which appear in them. The films are considered as an element in the structuring or the formation of culture; the information, the images, the associations, etc., predispose certain cultural determinations, certain values and ideological assumptions. The piece deals with the perception of these images, particularly images of women and themes of sexuality associated with women. The program, unlike the films, does not allow the viewer to identify with one viewpoint, but presents several. The soundtrack, through the use of repetition and fragmentation of the text, reflects upon the way media functions.
