TAPECODE 251.00

An allegory of gender. The tape uses still projections, performance and text in a mission to avenge the fate of a woman torn between science and fiction.

In the early 20th century, finding herself a fiction propping up the edifice of patriarchy, she tries to use male-dominated science to escape. To be liberated, she must do things scientifically ('like a man'). Fleeing fiction across time and many places, reveals science as no mere enabler, but another kind of trap. She tries a redemptive compromise: writing memory; a 'scientific' fiction; which condemns her to perpetual disappointment, unless her granddaughter can succeed in installing the alternative to both "departed" and "arrived": the provisional.
