Since the end of the Cold War, the meanings associated with the words east and west have been undergoing a rapid transformation from the point of view of the people living in Berlin, a city at the centre of these changes. Made up of hundreds of street interviews chronicling definitions of such words as home, nationality, democracy, socialism, history and freedom, Former East/Former West builds a complex view of how Berliners are redefining what they believe in and who they identify with.
