Another Victim of Love

This video is a deconstruction of the seductive, romanticized role of "woman as victim" in love songs. In the first part of the video, a woman lip-synchs with The Supremes; as the background music disappears, her vulnerability becomes apparent. A handwritten text over the image describes the perceived dilemma of choosing between joining the "victim of sisterhood" and (lonely) self-reliance. In part 2, a woman discusses her invulnerability in a "truthful" direct address; her declaration of independence is undermined as her words go out of synch. She switches herself off, and is replaced by part 3, a disconcertingly funny silent mini-movie enacting the familiar, serious story of abuse... followed by an epilogue (all in under 8 minutes).
