Bathers combines images of two men bathing with a soundtrack from a gay phone-sex line. This electronic bathouse is a contemporary glimpse of how some gay men see themselves, and suggests how they are constructing images of desire. The disembodied voices reflect a dislocation many gay men have experienced from their own bodies. The physical body has become a vague reference point in this realm of fantasy, and the domestic familiarity of the male bathers is intended to emphasize the absence of the physical body on a phone-sex line. The viewer is left with his/her own sense of bodily dislocation and fantasy.
