"The Artist and Her Model" was inspired by a drawing by Egon Schiele, The Artist and His Model, 1910, in which Schiele records himself looking at his model as she looks at herself in the mirror. She expresses a self-possession while he "with a concentration that shoots a frown across his forehead soberly records her confident eroticism reflected in the mirror." I wanted to place myself in the position of this male gaze, looking at the nude female body.....a reflection of my own. The artist/audience relationship reflects that of the model/artist's. I/they are placed simultaneously in the self-conscious position of watching each other watch a female nude as she attempts to remain present within herself -- there for herself and not for the viewer.
The main narrative is preceded by a fragmented projection narrative where the viewer becomes a participant in animating photo projections of a psycho-sexual intrigue.
